Fabergé Imperial Collection - Salad Plate
For Easter 1886, Czar Alexander III gave his wife, Czarina Maria Feodorovnam, A Faberge Egg. The gold and jeweled treasure openend to reveal a miniature "surprise", in which sublime playfulness combined with superb craftsmanship. The Imperial Egg of 1886 was the first of many the famous Russian jeweler, Peter Carl Fabergé (1846-1920), was to create for the czars and czarinas of Russia. Of the original 54 eggs created by Faberge, only 45 are known to exist today.
